Open Sessions is a hybrid exhibition/residency program that provides unique opportunities for selected artists to find new approaches for contextualizing and exhibiting their work through exhibitions, public programs, workshops, and working dinners. The artists selected for Open Sessions may or may not draw as their primary means of art-making. The two-year program engages musicians, architects, dancers, poets—anyone who is interested in expanding the boundaries of drawing. Open Sessions artists work together to create a dynamic, continuous conversation, viewing drawing as an activity rather than a product. To apply, please include:

  • Full name
  • Brief statement of interest. Max. 200 words
  • Proposal for a project (an exhibition, a performance, a conversation, a publication, a panel discussion, etc.). Max 300 words
  • Ten examples of work (images, text, video or sound files, etc.). Max. 10 files
  • Caption list (include the title, dimensions, medium, date, and other applicable information for each work)
  • Curriculum vitae (include email and website address, if applicable)
  • Title all files and folders beginning with your last and first name (“Smith_Jane_Resume”)
